Shame BEA was a young boy when captured to become a child soldier. His story is Just one out of the million others out there; he became a voice to the ones unheard. Beach’s childhood was taken away, as well as his innocence. He would no longer do the things he enjoyed and spend his time playing with friends. Sometimes life has many bumps along the way, but this wasn’t Just a bump.
It was something he’d have to live tit forever. The things we all experience make us who we are. Shame BEA was just 12 years old when he first experienced war. He was on his way to Mater Gong to participate in a friend’s talent show, but he never knew his life would be impacted. Shame had a talent he was a great dancer, enjoyed dancing with his friends. At that time there were many attacks by the Rebel Army In Sierra Leone. The Rebels would attack small villages and take children to become part of their army. The children were taken away from their family, never to see them again.
All the kids were trained to kill, to be ruthless. No child should ever live through a situation like that. Shame shared his experiences to the world, his tragic childhood. Everything Shame BEA experienced helped him to become a strong man. He dealt with drug abuse and many other things; he became what he most feared. He was separated from his friends, believing any day would be his last. Shame lost his Innocence with all the things he experienced, his childhood dreams all taken away. Everything became nightmares to him; leaving him with no hope at all of his future.
The children were forced onto war, to fight in a battle that wasn’t theirs. Shame would live with it for his whole life. Shame is a great example of hope, even he lost everything he had he was able to back on his feet and be the voice of children soldiers. When the EUNICE took Shame he still believed he had no hope. Little by little he began to rehabilitate to gain back his emotions by creating s bond with Esther a nurse. Although he would never be the same he was able to get past his tragic times. He reunited with the last family member he had his uncle.
In Sierra Leone war continued leading him to believe staying there wasn’t a good option since he’d live wrought war again. He left to the United States in hope for a better future.
