The Metaphors Project depicts the Importance of creation, perception, and the imagination when trying to create a better world for yourself and future generations. The setting of this piece can be described as a fantasy- like garden, seen In a lucid dream. Along the bottom of the mural are relief landscape sculptures. Lush green ferns and bushes line the left corner, working towards the right are more floral bushes and a single extravagant tree centered in the composition. A curving ladder interrupts the left side of the trees foliage.
A young girl Is on the top step, reaching to place a single star in the sky to complete a small dipper constellation. The constellation is set on a circular segment that is painted purple and dark blue, while the rest of the sky was painted bright sky blue, with soft white clouds to accent. The word “Input” is boldly printed to the left of the ladder; the text Is laden with a mosaic of mirror-Like material, being possible to see your own reflection, this portrays the tact that anyone’s Input can be purposeful to any task. Like the girl completing the installation.
Beneath the tree branches is a detailed painted entryway. Looks as If It was a common door you would find in the back of a restaurant white, metal push bar to open, metal sheet across the bottom. An African American woman is holding the door open with one hand, the rest of her body in a position that could be described as curious, wanting to step out of the door to explore the beautiful garden. The woman Inside the doorway Is dressed In long black shorts, sneakers, and a t-shirt that reads, “believing starts here. I noticed the woman dressed in black, but also the word “visualize” is also printed in black. Long the top of the mural. The pairing of the colors gave me an underlying suggestion between the two. The entryway aids in the view of this large universe. And the many opportunities it has to offer, opportunities many can visualize, believe, and could be achieved. The door is of realistic proportion, however, It looks quite miniscule within the composition, but still powerful. The focal point of The Metaphors Project Is a larger than Life size male face, built p through a bed of sunflowers, to the right of the green tree.
At first glance, the face is stunning and majestic due to the mosaic, 3-D construction. The materials used where small pieces of reflective ceramic or glass. Every small piece was aligned to emphasize the realistic curves of the facial features, excluding the painted eyeball ‘ Off almost black because of it being so dark against the pupil. The face was more off masculine shape, broad facial structure, strong Jaw line, and had a serious to nearly emotionless expression. The forehead of the face is not complete or whole, but is being shown as part of a project.
To either side there are boys with ladders leaned against the face, and atop of the face is a girl looking as if she is smoothing the surface of the completed work. Looks as if kids where working together to build a tree house. The words “process” is printed towards the bottom of one of the ladders, and “create” is printed near the right side of the face. The display of the particular words creates a reminder for the viewers, that there’s always a process to create something magnificent.
