Sex work is an area of sexuality that has been around for centuries. There are many different areas of sex work. There are such things as prostitution, pornography, sex tourism, and the sex trade. Sex workers are present in almost every country. In the Middle East, Islam believed that sex was meant to be enjoyed by both the male and the female. Sex was not allowed outside of marriage. It was believed that extramarital sex would so powerful that it could disrupt society.

In the Philippines there is no strong evidence that shows the exact birth of sex workers but as the definition of the sex workers it began from the comfort women of World War II, the name “comfort women” is a translation of a Japanese name MANFUL it is a euphemism for shops meaning prostitute(s) wherein sex-starved Japanese soldiers forced Filipino “comfort omen” to spread their legs for the glory of the nation of the rising sun. Another picture that paved way to the dawn of sex tourism in the country was the prostitution n Along City.

Soon after World War II, the Philippines signed as an agreement with the US government to provide for the Americans an unhampered use of 23 naval bases all over the country for 99 years, and one of these naval bases was Along Naval Base. The “need” for the entertainment of the weary soldiers has been catered by nearby residents of the military base. Soon numerous bars and brothels dotted Along to respond to the sexual desires of the American military. In Baggie city, National Statistics Office recorded the Increased at the rate of 2. 6 percent annually Based on barraging was Massage’s, upper. The interest for the phenomenon began to grow in the asses with increased attention to sexually transmitted diseases, especially the risk of contracting HIVE on trips to poor, undeveloped countries (Ryan & Hall 2001). Cohen claims that it represents a paradox that sex tourism has been studied to such a little degree, when it has been such a well-known and often condemned phenomenon.

A factor that may have contributed to this is one country political unwillingness to acknowledge the existences of sex tourism, something that has tend towards difficulty in estimating the size of the commercial sex industry (Ryan & Hall 2001). Also, it may be result of the fact that sex tourism often is taking place far away from the streets of industrialized countries, which makes it a distant phenomenon that is our responsibility.

Sex tourism could be defined as prostitution, but this view is challenged by some researchers such as for example by Operand (1999), who argues that prostitution and sex tourism overlap, but still must be studied as separate phenomena. Sex tourism, he claims, involves more than the “monetary change” that characterizes prostitution, it also involves factors such as the “purpose of the travel, length of time, relationship, sexual encounter, and who falls in this category of travel”. Thus, in the study of sex tourism we have to nuance the mechanisms involved so that we study the phenomenon as context dependent.

The study focuses on the life of the sex workers in Baggie City. It is also aims to determine the sex workers experiences in the context of their everyday lives, and the levels of resiliency they are able to establish in the face of adversity and to better understand sex workers in the sex industry and to learn about their perspectives on health, safety and well-being in their workplace. Specially the study seeks to answer the following problems: 1 . What are the profiles of sex workers 2. What are the reasons why they engaged in this kind of Job? 3. What are their experiences in this kind of activity/ work? 4. What are their future plans?
